What to expect from a trip to Florida | Tips and tricks

travel

So it’s almost October can you believe it?

I’ve been a little quiet on her lately as a lot has been happening! From starting a new job, working on the house to planning our latest holiday! (I’m currently writing this post from a sun bed in Florida)

Me and my husband have ventured across the Atlantic to super sunny (and extremely hot) Florida. We have just celebrated our first wedding anniversary and wanted to return to the place of our honeymoon. The state stole our hearts last year and we knew we wanted to return as soon as possible!

This time round we have felt much more comfortable knowing the ropes and how things work in the U. S of A.

I couldn’t possibly keep all of this insider information to myself which is why you lovely people get the know how on some of our hints and tips from our American travels.

  1. Prepare for the weather

So I’ve been to hot countries before, but this is definitely a different kind of heat. Both times we have travelled here in September and it is truly a beautiful time of year. The days vary from the high twenties to mid thirties which makes sunbathing a must. (Don’t forget the suncream!) However, the afternoons can frequently bring heavy rain and thunderstorms due to the high temperatures and winds. We have seen some fantastic lightening shows! My number one tip for helping with this is to pack a waterproof poncho! We bought ours from EBay for real cheap. They are easy to keep in your bag for sudden downpours – trust me, you’ll be thanking me.

2. Love bugs

Ok, so I’m not scared of insects really but you will find Florida has an abundance of these cutely named creatures. They are black flying insects that are mostly romantically attached to their partners. They fly around and often land on you which is very annoying but they are harmless. You can use a bug spray or wristband to help but no doubt you will come across these loved up bugs at some point!

3. Expenses

From Disney to Univeral, there are a lot of pricey excursions here. Don’t get me wrong we have been doing most of them but if you are able to save a dollar of two then I’m all over it! We’re staying at a Universal hotel this time (hotel post to follow over the next few days) and there have, believe it or not, been some amazing money saving deals by staying here. One thing I will say is that dining in resort or at the parks is much more expensive than say dining on international drive where you can find equally as delicious dinners at a fraction of the price. For instance a cocktail at our hotel poolside is $13 where a margarita at Chilis on i-drive is $5. I rest my case.

Plus don’t be afraid to pop to the nearest grocery store to pick up a few staple pieces for cheap. We picked up some granola bars and crisps to keep in the room and take out and about when we wanted a snack! Much cheaper than paying for a snack in the parks!

4. Hair and skincare

This is one that always catches me out! In the Florida heat my hair gets as dry as the Sahara and for some reason I alway forget to pack conditioner. Luckily our hotel provided some but it is a staple if you want to prevent dry frizzy hair like mine! Moisturiser has been another good friend of mine. After a day in the sun my skin not only feels dry but looks worse so don’t forget a hydrating moisturiser!!

5. Watch out when crossing roads

If driving on the other side of the road isn’t confusing enough , try crossing a road. It’s a bad idea to just step out especially when there is four lanes of cars! But even when you do hit that button to cross it doesn’t mean that cars will stop for you, it’s just gives them a warning! So keep an eye on the traffic!!!

6. Tips

Tipping is considered a norm for everything and I can completely understand why. A lot of the peoples wages here are made up mostly of tips and we have always had the best service wherever we went. It’s usually custom to add 15-20% tip on to the bill and you can do this with card or cash. (we mainly did cash tips)

7. Travel

If your at a park hotel or a hotel partner usually transfers to and from the main park attractions are included. However if your a little further a field Uber is a great choice and has reasonable prices! We also used the I-trolley on international drive (it’s a trolley bus that travels the entire length of I-drive) which is ridiculously affordable! It’s $2 a trip (a single ride) per person! Plus if your a Virgin holidays customer we were provided a 14 day free I trolley pass which meant we could travel throughout the i- drive area for free!

I’m sure I will think of more as time goes on but these are the most useful insights we found out from our own personal experience!

Do you guys have any tips of your own that would be useful?! Let me know in the comments!

I will shortly be uploading a post all about the hotel we stayed in and our experience at Universal Aventura!

Beauty

Hi guys!

If you didn’t already know from my IG, I’ve been on holiday recently, I went on a cruise around Croatia, Greece and Italy and Montenegro.

It was absolutely beautiful. Here is a sneaky peak of the gorgeous scenery from Montenegro.

I mean, how gorgeous is this right?! It looks just like a painting!

We were very lucky to have been #gifted from an amazing bag company – @GastonLuga. We used a gorgeous grey satchel as our hand luggage and adventure bag throughout the trip and it did the job perfectly.

I chose this classic grey satchel which had several handy pockets to keep all of my belongings safe throughout the trip. It also has a secret pocket on the back of the bag for important documents or passports which is where we kept ours!

Speaking of passports, if you guys purchase a bag from @GastonLuga you also get a free passport holder too!!

And if that is not enough, you can get 15% discount with my code CT15. The quality of the bag is incredible and it definitely held up well whilst we travelled across the seas!

If you want to see what other beautiful bags they have (I have already added some more to my wish list!) then check out their webshop https://gastonluga.com/

Check out their IG too, it has some amazing travel pics!! #travelwithgl

If you would like to see some more holiday snaps, find me on IG and make sure you give me a follow to keep up to date with the latest – @charlottethrupp

Let me know where you guys are going on holiday this year! I need some more inspiration for future trips! And let me know what you pack in your hand luggage too! #packitwithgl

Paris Holiday – Tips and tricks!

Uncategorized

I know quite a few of my fellow bloggers visiting Paris so..for anyone visiting Paris soon or in the future, I have decided to write up some handy hints and tips for my fellow travellers. Travelling in a different country can be scary terrifying at times – Especially of you don’t speak the language! From understanding the Metro to Personal safety, I am here to answer any questions and guide you to an amazing Parisian escape!

Lets get started…

#1 First things first is the Metro.

It is essential to travel around Paris on the Metro as it is the fastest way to get to all the attractions and your hotel! The best ticket to buy is the ‘Paris Visite’ ticket, which you can choose for 1, 2 or 3 days travel that allows you to take the metro basically anywhere! It cost me and my boyfriend 18 euros for 2 days, which is a really good price because, trust me…. We used the Metro so many times a day!

#2 Watch out for beggars and scams

It’s pretty much the same where ever you go on holiday but watch out! On the metro, it is common for women to start speaking aloud in French to the whole metro carriage asking for money… this happened a few times to us and they prey on tourists!

At most attractions, some people will come up to you asking if you speak English and shove a clipboard in your hand to sign something. Don’t be fooled and just walk away!

Another trick is for someone to appear as though they have picked something up in front of you and ask if it is yours, in our case it was a ‘gold’ ring. Don’t say yes or anything to them, it is another scam to try and get money out of you!!

Lastly, if someone tries to offer you a rose… don’t take it off them as they want money again!

It can be quite scary sometimes, especially if you don’t speak French, but don’t let it ruin your holiday!

#3 Food, Glorious Food

Who couldn’t enjoy French food? Go to local bakeries for freshly baked baguettes and cakes galore! They also do homemade filled sandwiches if you want to grab a bite for lunch. It is a lot cheaper than eating out at restaurants all the time! We found that most things on menus cost around 14-18 euros…. Even for a Panini sometimes… We saved this type of spending until our evening meal and grabbed a quick bite in a bakery for around 4 euros.

#4 Eiffel Tower

It’s going to happen; everyone goes up the Eiffel Tower and RIGHTLY SO! It is so beautiful and I could not keep my eyes from it! We visited it several times on our trip but unfortunately the summit was closed both times. If you are aged between 18-24 you can get a cheap ticket for 7 euros! If you’re up for some exercise, you can walk up the tower instead of the lift which gives you great views from different heights! But beware; it’s a killer for the legs!

#5 Brush up on some French

Now, I tried to learn some basic French but I am completely hopeless… They do appreciate it if you try rather than just speak English and they may seem a bit rude so make sure to say please, thank you and goodbye! (That’s about all I could do).

#6 Souvenirs

If you prefer to spend a little less, buy your gifts from shops a little further away from the attractions! They are a lot cheaper!

#7 Fashion wise

I took a lot of warm clothes to Paris as it is Winter but I still wanted to look Parisian chic…. This lasted for about a day until comfort got the better of me! Comfortable shoes and a warm coat are essential, as well as a decent bag – I chose a cross body bag, for safety and convenience! I chose simple makeup, but added a red lip for that instant dolled up look!

Christmas nails- Basics

Uncategorized

Ok, so for christmas I love to do my nails and make them festive for the season.
I have absolutely been in love with deep reds and maroons to suit the holiday season!

Not only do red tones compliment ALL skin colours, its extremely wearable for almost any occasion. Brighter and cooler reds suit a tanned skin tone whereas darker and richer colours suit a paler complexion.

As my skin tone is quite fair, I chose to use a dark red by ‘George’ for Asda in the shade ‘Plum’.
Now this nail varnish is a gel polish that dries super glossy and pigmented giving perfectly polished fingers in just one coat.
The rich colour gives a classy and elegant look to outfit and is perfect for christmas parties and events.
I have currently been wearing it for five days now without chipping. It is PERFECT….. And it was only £3. A christmas bargain!
