Christmas Glossybox Unboxing 2018 | BeautyandShe

Its 3 days until Christmas!

Can you believe it? Who else is excited as I am?

As Ive gotten older and people ask me “What would you like for Christmas?” , My response has been “Nothing”.

Now that may sound mean of me but I am so happy and blessed with what I have, I really don’t need anything! I much prefer spending time with family and friends and enjoying all the festivities… AND ALL THE FOOD!

Now there is one thing I have been indulging in over the past few months and that is Glossybox. If you don’t know what it is, it is a monthly subscription where you receive 5 beauty products straight through your letterbox.

So for this months edition, I thought I would share with you lovely lot, what I received and what I thought about the products. There are definitely products I will be buying again which would be great for Christmas stocking fillers too!

If you haven’t already checked out my Christmas gift guides then click HERE.

Firstly, the packaging was EVERYTHING. A red and gold box filled with red packing tied with a bow – Very festive.

The first product I had was a Liquid jelly blush by Niko Pro. Ive never heard of this brand before but after some research they are 100% cruelty free, vegan friendly and based in the UK. The colour I had was rather peachy, and im not too keen on peach blush but it did look pretty. The only problem I have with jelly blush is that is ALWAYS takes off my foundation underneath and looks patchy. I did have the same problem with this one too but perhaps I just need to perfect my technique.

Now if this doesnt scream Christmas then I don’t know what does. This lip crayon by Doucce is heavenly! Apparently the brand was inspired by Paris elegance and New York attitude – I love that phrase! It is so rich and creamy and is the perfect shade for this season. As you can see by the swatch it is very pigmented and I did have a tough time getting it off my skin! That just means its long lasting!

Unicorns are very much still in fashion at the moment I can see. This Cosmic Unicorn shower gel by Imperial Leather smells incredible. Its funny as the week before I recieved my Glossybox, I bought the exact same thing but in bubble bath and I adored the scent! The only thing I am disappointed with is that from the outside it looks like the gel would make the make glittery/holographic which is kind of what drew me to it –  Particularly as it says “Moon and Sparkles Unicorn Dust”. It does create a load of lovely bubbles though!

I posted this picture on my Instagram (@charlottethrupp) the other day and had such a great response. This is a shimmer roll on highlighter from Bellapierre  and it gives me so many 90’s vibes. This is my favourite product from the box and I know I will already by repurchasing. The shimmer is so pretty and the colour as you can see is not too cold and icy. I much prefer warmer toned highlighters. It is so easy to use – you literally just roll on and I blend slightly using my fingers. Plus you can use it not just on face but on the body too – It looks beautiful on my collarbones for the extra pop!

Now every single person gets blocked pores on there nose. There is nothing wrong with it, it happens. I have used many pore strips in the past just to see what effect they have and if they can eradicate those black dots. The reality – They ever manage to get rid of them all. Fact. This one by Maybeauty did remove a few but it will never get rid of them all girl. I wasn’t really too fussed on this product as I find them slightly pointless but even so  it was interesting to see how it matched some of the other ones I tried.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Now I love to enhance the look of my lips with liner and lipstick but I have never tried one of these lip masks which are supposed to plump and hydrate your lips. This is by BeautyBLVD and I found it so funny applying this to my skin, it looked like I had a botched lip job – nevertheless I persisted to keep it on for about 15 minutes to see if my lips had altered in any way, shape or form. The hadn’t really, they did feel softer but not really hydrated and they didnt look any plumper. It was fun to use but I wouldnt repurchase as a good quality lip balm or plumping gloss is just as good or better and quicker.

Well I hope you guys enjoyed this little festive read. I was very honest in saying that I would repurchase some and definitely not others. I love the concept of Glossybox and I know that some people would LOVE all the products but for me, only a select few – It is fun to try new brands though!

Have you guys tried Glossybox? Or had this edition? Let me now you thoughts below!

I hope you have a very Merry Christmas and enjoy this special time!

Head of Steam Cardiff: The NEWEST craft beer pub in the city

Uncategorized

img_1053-4

So there may be a couple of things you don’t know about me…

Ofcourse you know I love shopping and makeup and fashion… I also LOVE food.

I’m a real foodie at heart, and I love exploring new and upcoming restaurants and businesses.

I was invited to attend the opening of the NEW craft beer pub Head of Steam in Cardiff and I jumped at the chance of being able to review new food and an array of drinks! I was able to bring my husband which was so lovely as I was able to share my blogging experiences with him for the first time.

So on Monday 29th October, we took our short Uber ride into town (Cardiff) and made our way to the venue. Head of Steam is a really modern venue yet very cosy and inviting at the same time.

As soon as we walked in we were greeted by the staff who welcomed us in and showed us to the bar. As this was opening night, we were lucky enough to be able to try everything complimentary so we couldn’t wait to try all the interesting options!

I decided to try one of my all time faves first – a classic Gin and Tonic. It was divine. The choice of gin available was amazing, I opted for a fruity raspberry gin which was very refreshing and was great to drink whilst browsing the menu.

After that I fancied a cocktail – another love of my life. I asked the bar staff what they would recommend and they were so knowledgeable about all the different drinks they provide. I was recommended to try the Steamy Martini which comes with a shot of prosecco!

Honestly, it was probably one of the best cocktails I have ever tried. It had such a gorgeous passionfruit flavour – very easy to drink – followed by my prosecco shot. Plus how stunning does it look!

The decor is fantastic and I kept finding new things to look at at every turn of the head, They have a wall full of neon lights/ advertisements and old posters which really gave me biker chic vibes – I LOVE IT!

For our food, we were spoilt for choice. Since we were in a craft beer pub we decided to go for one of the recommended choices – The Besler.

Check out the rest of their menu and prices HERE.

It consists of 3 tapas style tasters alongside their paired matching beers. This was right up our street and we took our time choosing our options.

When the food arrived I was shocked at the amount we received. Usually when I have tapas its typically very small plates that don’t really fill you up. This however was an exception!

I chose:

King prawn tortilla which paired with PILSNER.

Chicken Skewers which paired with ENGLISH GOLDEN ALE.

Red Pepper Houmous with garlic and coriander naan which paired with BELGIAN BLONDE ALE.

As a complete novice of ales, it was so good to try such a selection and see how well they paired with the different foods. I highly recommend this dish as it gives you such a wide selection of everything they provide.

It felt completely relaxed and so cosy the whole time we were there and it felt like such a good socialising venue. The music selection was great and was not too loud which is one of my pet peeves – I hate not being able to talk to the person next to me so this was perfect.

If your in Cardiff, I highly advise you try this new delightfully delicious venue. Good food, Amazing drinks and cosy atmosphere.

They are also on Instagram HERE.

Our House Tour

Uncategorized

img_1053-4

So as you guys know, we have recently bought our first home.

Now that we have settled in, we have really started to put our own personal touches into the building.

To give you a bit of history, our lovely cottage was built in 1850 and has such a homely feel to the place. It has old farm doors and an enclosed staircase with views overlooking the farm and fields. The cottages used to be owned by railway workers in the 1900’s (I live very close to a train station)  and in our garden we have gorgeous flowerbeds made from old railway sleepers.

I really enjoy interior design and home decor, so I can’t wait to show you our developments so far.

Ready for the grand tour?

 The Hallway

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

The first thing you see as you enter our house is our hallway. I’ve always wanted one as it gives a bit of privacy instead of walking straight into the living room. The colour scheme is a neutral green and cream so we added  a neutral beige rug to lengthen the space. I LOVE our little shelf which is handy to put keys etc. The mirror is perfect for makeup touch ups just before I head out the door.

Rug: Ikea: £30

Flowers: Asda: £5

Mirror: From previous owner

The Dining Room

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

From the hallway, it opens up to our Dining Room. We completely refurbished this space as the colour scheme wasn’t quite what we wanted. I love how open and spacious it feels with the alcoves giving that cosy feel. Our feature wall is in the shade ‘Meteor Dust’ and goes perfectly with our sideboard and dining table. We have two lamps in each alcove which really creates a cosy vibe.

Table and Chairs: Ikea: £150

Sideboard: Tesco: £300

Lamps: Ikea: £16 each

The Living Room

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Our living room is the perfect size. We had some real bargains in here. Its colour theme is a neutral beige and white with hints of blue and grey. We have a beautiful winged armchair in the corner which is great for snuggling up by the fire. You can see out to our front garden where we have an old stone wall and gate.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Our fireplace is in the centre which creates a really cosy ambience along with the lights in the alcoves. I have added candles on the mantelpiece and marble fire surround because im a candle fanatic.

Coffee Table: Costco: £70

Winged Armchair: £179

Tv Stand: Ikea: £85

Sofa: Free

Curtains: Tesco: £15

The Kitchen

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

From the living room we enter the kitchen. It has slate floor and cream tile walls. We haven’t had to do anything to the kitchen which was really good. When we bought the house, on of the things that attracted me was the kitchen as its such a good size. It has wooden work tops which add to the country feel and a step which lead to our sink and view across the garden.

I have always wanted one of these taps. It makes washing up so much easier! I love the view across our garden and our aloe vera plant enjoys the views too.

We added hints of copper to the kitchen to add warmth and I HAD to get these pots from Next as soon as I saw them.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We had a new oven fitted and kept the original hob. I have to say there is so much storage im struggling to fill all the cupboards and drawers.

I believe the kitchen is the heart of the home and I love cooking in this space. It has such a warm and homely feel to it already.

Fridge:Russell Hobbs: £669

Oven: Currys: £170

Dishwasher: Already there

Clock: Dunelm: £25

Fruit bowl: Home Bargains: £2.99

Coffee Pots: Next: £18

The Stairway

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

I love enclosed stairs.

There is something really nice just walking up the wooden staircase to bed – I dont know what it is! Its enclosed with an old wooden farm door which adds to our cottage style and vibes.

The Bedroom

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

We went for an all white theme for the Bedroom as it would be easy to change up accent colours to fit with the time of year. At the moment with Christmas and winter, we went with a warm red and grey. We have all fitted wardrobes which have TONS of room – Thankfully!

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Its nice not to have too much clutter in the room and have a nice space to breathe. The white walls give the space a brightness and compliment my bed frame well.

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Ofcourse I had to have a space of my own. This little corner of the room was destined to be vanity area. Its so cute and I love being able to sit down in the morning and get ready.

Bed Frame: Ikea: £99

Duvet set: Tesco: £15

Chair: Ikea: £11

Mirror: Ikea: £12

Second and Third Bedrooms

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

At the moment, were using the second and third bedrooms as a study area and gaming room for Jamie and blogging area for me. We haven’t made any alterations to the colours as of yet, but im not keen on the yellow walls of the study… BUT its perfectly decent for now!

The Third floor/ Attic

SAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURESSAMSUNG CAMERA PICTURES

Behind the wooden door lies a second stair case leading to a third floor. Jamie has already claimed this as his man cave and im all for it! It will be a space for gaming, relaxing and movie night with popcorn. PLUS is has great views from the skylight across the fields and beyond.

And that, is our home!

I hope you guys have enjoyed looking around our new place, and I cant wait to keep you updated with all the decorating and plans.

I would love to know what you guys think and if you have any ideas let me know!

I would also LOVE to see your decor posts too so send me your links!
